Kairana is one of the three Assembly seats of the Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh. This seat is part of the Kairana Lok Sabha seat. Kairana is one of the most talked-about Assembly seats in the state. It was in news ahead of the 2017 elections because of the exodus of a particular community. The election in this is going to be interesting as sitting Samajwadi Party MLA Nahid Hasan has been arrested and his London-return sister is campaigning on her brother's behalf. On the other hand, the BJP has fielded Mriganka Singh, daughter of late BJP leader and three-term Kairana MLA Hukum Singh. This is a general seat, i.e. it is not reserved for SCs or STs. The voting is scheduled in the first phase i.e. on February 10, 2022.
