Jaswantnagar is one of the three Assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh's Etawah district. It is one of the five Assembly seats that make up the Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency. The Jaswantnagar Assembly constituency is a general seat, i.e. it is not reserved for SCs or STs. In the 2017 Assembly elections, Samajwadi Party's (SP) Shivpal Singh Yadav had won the seat with a margin of 52,616 votes (22.58% of total valid votes). After his patch up with his nephew Akhilesh Yadav, Shivpal is again contesting from the constituency on the SP's symbol.
