Mathura is one of the five Assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district. It is one of the five Assembly seats that make up the Mathura Lok Sabha constituency. The Mathura Assembly constituency is a general seat, i.e. it is not reserved for SCs or STs. In the 2017 Assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Shrikant Sharma had won the seat with a margin of 1,01,161 votes (39.97 of total valid votes). Sharma, who is the Energy Minister in the Yogi Adityanath Cabinet, is again contesting the elections from the constituency.
