Suar is one of the five Assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh's Rampur district. It is one of the five Assembly seats that make up the Rampur Lok Sabha constituency. The Suar Assembly constituency is a general seat, i.e. it is not reserved for SCs or STs. In the 2017 Assembly elections, Samajwadi Party's (SP) Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan had won the seat with a margin of 53,096 votes (25.78% of total valid votes). However, his election from this seat was declared null and void on the grounds that he was underage. Abdullah is the son of senior SP leader Mohammad Azam Khan and has been fielded by the SP from the seat once again.
