Sarojini Nagar is one of the nine Assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow district. It is one of the five Assembly seats that make up the Mohanlalganj Lok Sabha constituency. The Sarojini Nagar Assembly constituency is a general seat, i.e. it is not reserved for SCs or STs. In the 2017 Assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Swati Singh had won the seat with a margin of 34,179 votes (11.75% of total valid votes). The BJP has denied a ticket to Swati Singh, the minister in the Yogi Adityanath government, and fielded Rajrajeshwar Singh this time from the constituency. Singh, an Indian Police Service officer, recently took VRS (Voluntary Retirement Scheme) to take the plunge into politics. The SP has given its ticket to Abhishek Mishra.
