Mau is one of the four Assembly seats of the Mau district in Uttar Pradesh. The Mau Assembly seat falls under the Ghosi Lok Sabha constituency. This is considered to be the stronghold of Mukhtar Ansari, who won the last election on the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket. Ansari, who is currently in jail, has represented the seat five times in a row. The BSP had denied him a ticket this time. His son Abbas Ansari is an SBSP candidate from Mau. The Mau Assembly constituency is a general seat, i.e. it is not reserved for SCs or STs. The voting is scheduled in the seventh phase i.e. on March 7, 2022.
