Adithya Ashok
Adithya Ashok is a talented New Zealand cricketer known for his sharp leg break and googly bowling. He was born on 5 September 2002 in Vellore in Tamil Nadu India but his family moved to Auckland when he was just four years old. Growing up in New Zealand he quickly developed a passion for cricket and honed his skills as a young spinner. His hard work paid off early when he was selected to represent the New Zealand Under 19 team at the 2020 World Cup in South Africa where he showcased his enormous potential to the world.
After a promising youth career Ashok made his professional T20 debut for the Auckland Aces in December 2021. He followed this up with his List A debut in January 2022. The 2022 to 2023 domestic season proved to be a major breakthrough for him. During his first class debut for Auckland in the Plunket Shield he took an impressive five wickets in a single innings. He continued to deliver dominant performances including a spectacular seven wicket haul that helped him earn the title of New Zealand Young Cricketer of the Year.
His consistent domestic success quickly caught the attention of the national selectors. In March 2023 he earned his maiden call up to the New Zealand A team for a series against Australia. Later that year his lifelong dream came true when he made his International T20 debut for New Zealand against the United Arab Emirates in August 2023. He ended the year on a high note by making his ODI debut against Bangladesh in December 2023 proving that he belonged at the highest level of the sport.
The years 2025 and 2026 marked a special full circle moment in his career. In 2025 he spent several weeks training at a cricket academy in Chennai to perfect his craft on subcontinent pitches. This preparation paid off massively in January 2026 when he returned to his birth country to play for New Zealand in an ODI series against India. Stepping onto the field in Vadodara as the frontline spinner was a proud moment for the young bowler who proudly sports a Tamil tattoo on his arm. He continued to feature in domestic tournaments for Auckland and remained a crucial part of the national team setup throughout the 2026 season.
