Captain Amarinder Singh, the 15th Chief Minister of Punjab, is a politician, military historian, author, former royal, and veteran. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly from Patiala and the president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, the Indian National Congress's state division. From 2002 to 2007, he was also the Chief Minister of Punjab for the first time. His father was the princely kingdom of Patiala's final Maharaja. From 1963 until 1966, he was a member of the Indian Army. He was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1980. Singh is also the chairman of the Punjab Urdu Academy as of February 2021. He again became the Punjab Chief Minister in 2017 but had to resign in 2021 due to internal conflict within the Congress party. He has established his own party the Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) and forged an alliance with the BJP and the Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt). In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Singh defeated BJP stalwart Arun Jaitley.
