Navjot Singh Sidhu is a politician from the Indian National Congress, a TV personality, and a former international cricketer. He now serves as the president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. He was previously the minister of tourism and cultural affairs in the Punjab state government under Amarinder Singh. In 2004, Sidhu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and (BJP) ran for the general election in Amritsar. He won the election and remained in office until 2014, winning the next election as well. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab in 2016 before resigning the next year and leaving the party. In 2017, he joined the Indian National Congress and was elected from Amritsar East to the Punjab Legislative Assembly. He is one of the chief ministerial aspirants within the Congress party. In 2017, Sidhu won the Amritsar East constituency by defeating BJP's Rajesh Kumar Honey with over 42,000 votes.
