Patiala is one of the Assembly seats of Patiala district in Punjab. The Patiala Assembly seat is a part of the Patiala Lok Sabha constituency. It is considered to be a safe seat for the Congress party. Former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who recently founded Punjab Lok Congress, is the sitting MLA from the Patiala seat. Singh has been winning this seat since 2002. In 2014, the seat was won by his wife Preneet Kaur when he became the member of Lok Sabha from Amritsar by defeating BJP stalwart Arun Jaitley. It would be interesting to see if the people of Patiala would pick the Congress party or Captain Amarinder Singh this time around. The Patiala Assembly constituency is a general seat, i.e. it is not reserved for SCs or STs. The voting on this constituency is scheduled for February 20, 2022.
