Amritsar Central is one of the Assembly seats of the Amritsar district in Punjab. Also, it is one of the Assembly seats that are part of the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency. In the 2017 Assembly elections, the Congress party's Om Parkash Soni had won the seat. He won the Amritsar Central seat for the first time in 2012. He is the current Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab. The Congress has again fielded him from the seat. The seat will go to the polls on February 20, 2022. The Amritsar Central Assembly constituency is a general seat, i.e. it is not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) or Scheduled Tribes (STs).
