Lalkuwa is one of the Assembly constituencies of the Nainital district in Uttarakhand. There were a total of 1,11,965 voters in the Khatima constituency during the 2017 Assembly elections. This year, the voting is scheduled to be held in a single phase in Uttarakhand i.e. on February 14, 2022. In 2017, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Naveen Chandra Dumka won the seat. However, the BJP has fielded Mohan Singh Bisht from the seat this time. Surprisingly, the Uttarakhand Congress shifted their nominees at the last minute and former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat was fielded from this seat. Rawat is likely to head the government if the Congress party wins the state elections. It must be noted that this Assembly seat falls under the Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar Lok Sabha constituency, which is represented by BJP's Ajay Bhatt.
