Haldwani is one of the Assembly constituencies of the Nainital district in Uttarakhand. There were a total of 1,40,407 voters in the Haldwani constituency during the 2017 Assembly elections. This year, the voting is scheduled to be held in a single phase in Uttarakhand i.e. on February 14, 2022. In 2017, Congress party's Indira Hridayesh had won the seat. The seat is vacant since June 2021 after Indira died following a heart attack. While, the Congress party has fielded Sumit Hridayesh, son of Indira Hridayesh from the seat, the BJP's candidate in this Assembly election will be Jogendra Pal Singh Rautela, the Haldwani mayor. The Haldwani Assembly constituency is a general seat, i.e. it is not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) or Scheduled Tribes (STs).
