Ganesh Godiyal is the president of Uttarakhand's Pradesh Congress Committee. The Congress party has fielded him as a candidate from the Srinagar Assembly constituency again. Godiyal lost the same constituency in the 2017 Assembly elections. He represented the constituency from 2012 to 2017 but lost the elections in 2017 when he was defeated by BJP's Dhan Singh Rawat. Godiyal has been a member of the Uttarakhand Congress party for years and has contested in every Uttarakhand Assembly election since the first. In 2002, he ran from the Thalisain Assembly seat and won with almost 40% of the total votes polled. He contested the polls from the Thalisain in 2007 again but was defeated by BJP's Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.
