Charanjit Singh Channi is the current Chief Minister of Punjab and the leader of the Indian National Congress. He previously served in the second Amarinder Singh government as the minister of technical education and training and as the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly from 2015 to 2016. In September 2021, Channi became the first Dalit Chief Minister of the state. He is a three-time MLA from the Chamkaur Sahib constituency (2007, 2012 and 2017). In the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections, he retained the Chamkaur Sahib constituency by defeating Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Charanjit Singh. This time around, Channi is contesting the 2022 Assembly elections from two constituencies - Bhadaur and Chamkaur Sahib.
