Louren Steenkamp

Louren Steenkamp is a cricketer who has taken the long road to international cricket, and arrived all the better for it. Born in Potchefstroom, South Africa, he spent years quietly building his game across South African provincial cricket, polishing it further in English league clubs and on Irish pitches before stepping into the Namibian national setup and immediately looking at home.

The foundations of Steenkamp's game were laid in South African provincial cricket, where he progressed through the North West age-group ranks and represented North West University before making his first-class debut for North West in the 2017-18 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup. His most prolific domestic chapter came with the Limpopo Impalas across the CSA 4-Day Series and Provincial One-Day Challenge, where he amassed over 1,200 first-class runs and established himself as a top-order batter of genuine quality and substance.

Abroad, he broadened his game considerably, racking up 1,219 runs for Bradford and Bingley CC in the ECB Bradford Premier League in 2024, and producing similarly impressive returns for Coleraine CC in Ireland's North West Cricket Union. Each stint added another dimension to a batter whose game was being refined with every passing season.

The transition to Namibian international cricket arrived on 18 September 2025, with a T20I debut against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. Steenkamp made little time before announcing himself on the international stage. During the 2025 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier, he produced a blistering 51 off 27 balls against Nigeria - a knock that was equal parts power and clarity.

His international stock rose to a new level entirely at the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, where Steenkamp served as one of the key pillars of Namibia's top order on the global stage. His standout moment arrived at the iconic M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, where he stroked a fluent and composed 58 off 39 balls against the United States, hitting five fours and three sixes in a chase against a 200-run target.

In the 50-over format, his impact has been equally significant since his ODI debut in April 2026 against Oman at the Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek. Vital half-centuries of 68 against the Netherlands and 59 against Nepal in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 painted the picture of a batter who delivers consistently when the points matter most. By late 2026 he had already several half centuries.
