An Indian-origin activist on Thursday took over as the mayor of Harrow, a borough of north London. Councillor Rekha Shah, who was born and raised in Mumbai, has been serving as deputy mayor of the area for the past year. Shah became a Councillor in Harrow 14 years ago and worked actively in a number of committees of Harrow Council before being elected to the top job of the council.
