The social welfare department of the Gujarat government moved in to protect, counsel and rehabilitate a 14-year-old rape victim and her new-born girl child, from Khadalpur village in Mehsana district, a state government officer said, and released an aid of Rs 1.5 lakh to the victim and sent the girl to the government-run Children Home for Girls in the care of the Social Welfare Department.
