Soon after the results for the six municipal corporations, 31 district panchayats and 230 taluka panchayats were out, The level of joy was greater in the Congress headquarters, both in Ahmedabad and Delhi. For them, it was yet another blow to Narendra Modi, this time in his home state. The BJP has received a jolt in the elections to the civic bodies, with the party sweep in six corporations coming as a face-saver. With around 70 per cent seats of the total 988 district panchayat and 4,778 taluka panchayat seats under its belt, the Congress sees hope in the 2017 polls for the first time in two decades.
